She conducts historically focused sociological research on a range of topics broadly concerned with childhood, education, and the social and cultural influence of psychological knowledge. An important focus of Katie’s current research is institutional child abuse inquiries and increasing societal recognition of childhood abuse and its effects. Katie has a strong interest in the digital humanities and social sciences. She leads The Age of Inquiry project, which maps institutional abuse inquiries for an open access online knowledge resource. Previously, with Julie McLeod, she completed an historical study of schooling and adolescence, Educating the Australian Adolescent/Schooling Memories (2009–2012), which will be deposited in the SOCEY repository.
